The Air was crisp, the mountain was impeccable, and the views from the chairlift were absolutely insane. I sat in the middle of my dad and boyfriend. As the end was near everyone got ready to get off. This was my second year, I was confident I could start the first day off right, and gracefully dismount the chairlift. I turned sideways and saw everyone on the chair execute their exit perfectly. Then BAM. I am suddenly face down in the snow as I hear the lift worker yell “oh man are you okay?!” …”This is a great start,” I thought as I struggled to get away from the moving chairs before anyone saw my hot mess. That lift was just the beginning of falling again and again and again.

Yet no matter what I always got up. Maybe it was sheer determination. Maybe it was the fact that my boyfriend was screaming at me down the hill to get back up. Or maybe it was out of fear of being run over by the competent people flying down the hill.  No matter the reason, I got up.

Snowboarding will test you in every way possible. Between having to have patience (which I severely lack) and trying to make my body not give out from all the falls during my 10 days in Breck, I was eventually able to go down the blues without looking like a complete idiot.
Before I ever got on a board, I was obsessed with the sport. Shaun White made it look like the most fun you could ever have in the snow. Even when it totally sucked I was still able to hold onto that excitement. Once I got the heel side toe side not falling on my face thing, I had an absolute BLAST. Being with my favorite people, in one of the most gorgeous places on earth, and snowboarding made this vacation the best one to date.

So if you ever want to take up snowboarding remember this saying:
Fall down 100 times, stand up 101.
